Acupuncture
An ancient Chinese medicine system, considered by the World Health Organization to be equivalent to Western medicine. In my opinion, it would be ideal if there were more collaboration between the two disciplines.
Acupuncture works like this: research has shown that inserting a needle triggers a response in the brain. Certain areas of the brain work slightly faster, others slightly slower, and this has an effect on the body. Certain organs are stimulated, while others become less intense. It's like reprogramming a computer so the body can function better.
In Chinese philosophy, the term "Bu Tong Ze Tong, Tong Ze Bu Tong" means, "As long as there is a smooth flow of energy through the body, there will be no problems." To achieve healing, you must identify and remove the blockages so the body can recover and the condition can disappear.
Acupuncture therefore looks at the entire body, so that not only symptomatic work is done, but a long-term solution is also sought.
There's no need to be afraid of needles. The patient feels very little. An acupuncture needle is very fine and is inserted in a specific way. A needle is sterilely packaged, used once, and discarded. This shouldn't be compared to a syringe needle, which is much thicker and cuts through the skin. An acupuncture needle doesn't create a wound. Cupping often leaves a round, dark spot afterward, which disappears on its own after a few days.
There are no adverse effects after acupuncture treatment. People usually feel more energetic and positive quite quickly after the treatment.
Total Therapy
Since the body is a collaboration between a motor part, a psychological part, a chemical part and an energetic part, it is also important to be able to treat these four parts in order to achieve healing.
Within the motor skills component, you'll work on muscles and joints. I do this using techniques from osteopathy, manual therapy, Cyriax, dry needling, fascia therapy, massage, and exercise advice. I locate and release joint blockages through gentle manipulation, and I locate and release tension in muscles and tendons.
The psyche is addressed through relaxation techniques, craniosacral therapy, and discussing the emotions that arise. Emotions are good, but they should not be disruptive.
By chemical, I mean the functioning of the organs and the substances they release. For this, I use visceral techniques, provide nutritional advice, and recommend supplements or herbs.
To achieve an energetic balance I work with pressure point techniques, kinesiology or acupuncture.
This way I have a good treatment method for every part of the physical functioning and I have a better chance of curing a patient.
Course of treatment
On a first visit: - extensive questioning > about the complaint itself
-
Background information via questionnaire
- Nutrition
-
Medication, nutritional supplements
-
Tongue and pulse diagnosis > by looking at the tongue and feeling the pulse you can see and feel the patient's strengths and weaknesses
-
Physiotherapy or osteopathic examination > examining the mobility of the joints or feeling tension and injuries in the muscles or tendons
-
By using one or more treatment techniques we work towards an improvement and healing of the complaints
-
The duration of treatment depends on the complaint
From the second treatment:
- evaluation of the complaint (how are things going now?)
